Season Overview
The swim and dive season begins in May after Memorial Day, with daily practices, and finishes with a family banquet at the end of July. Athletes participate in daily practices and weekly competition opportunities. Upcoming season information is released when registration opens in mid-April.
The team’s youngest athletes can join the Mini Seahawks program that begins when school dismisses for the summer and team practices shift to a morning schedule. Mini Seahawks practice Monday thru Thursday and finish in mid-July with the team-favorite Annual Lollipop Meet.
Swim & Dive Team Membership
We invite members' children, age 5-18, to join the swim & dive team or Mini Seahawks program. The swim and dive season begins in late May with practices daily and ends with a family banquet at the end of July. Swim meets are held Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. Dive meets are held on Tuesday evenings. The team is run exclusively by volunteers. It is the commitment of each team member and family to participate in the efforts to make swim and dive season enjoyable to all.
The swim & dive teams are not just about competition. One of our main objectives is that participating children have fun while improving their swimming and diving skills. Our developmental swim meets, held on Monday evenings, are for all team members to improve and enhance their swimming skills in a competitive but fun environment. The Seahawks also have a number of team related social activities - so the fun is not limited to the water. If you have any questions regarding the swim & dive team or Mini Seahawks program, we encourage you to contact a team rep. New swimmers and divers will be evaluated by the coaching staff during Evaluations. If an athlete cannot fulfill the minimum requirements of the team then they may be asked to work on their skills outside of the team and return the next season.

Vacation & Absences
Attending practices and meets regularly throughout the season can yield amazing improvements and regular commitment enables an athlete to reach their full potential. Attendance at practice is encouraged for the best chance of eligibility to swim and dive in NVSL meets. When selecting athletes for dual meets, coaches reserve the right to consider, among other factors, an athlete’s dedication to their training opportunities.
Athletes need to notify coaches when school, family, or summer obligations occur throughout the season that prevent an athlete from participating in a meet. The NVSL has strict rules regarding substitutions and alternates at dual swim meets and dual dive meets so it is essential that the athlete notify the head coach or team rep about availability and absences. Parents can indicate an athlete’s availability for a planned meet absence in Swimtopia. The morning of a meet if an athlete is scheduled to compete but cannot attend (due to illness or unforeseen circumstance) parents need to notify the team rep immediately. While not ideal, coaches may be able to make substitutions if another athlete is available and present. All filled slots have a chance to score points!
Team Social Activities
Myriad activities, both in and out of the pool, throughout the season help foster fun and lasting memories. Watch the bulletin board, weekly emails, and newsletter for updates on things to do throughout the season. While we hope everyone joins in these social activities, all events are optional. Ready for some fun? Here's an example of past activities: lip-sync, late night swim, scavenger hunt, Friday morning breakfasts, and age group-specific activities.
Team Pictures
A professional photographer takes team and individual pictures at the end of June during practice time. Purchase of pictures is optional; however, we encourage all the team members to be present for the photo session. Please come in your team suit. Mini Seahawks are welcomed - please try to wear a suit that coordinates/matches with the team suit.
End of Season Awards Banquet
The End of Season Awards banquet is held the Sunday evening of Divisionals weekend. This get-together offers the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of swimmers and divers and the contributions of coaches and parents during an evening of good food, good fun, and good friends. Athletes and family members are encouraged to attend this celebration. After dinner and before the legendary slide show, awards are given to recognize those on the team.
Awards include Most Improved, the Coaches Award, the Seahawk of the Year Award, and the Josiah Lanier Memorial Award. Criteria for these awards are decided by the coaches. Coaches will consider swimmers who are hard workers, attend workouts faithfully, show team spirit, good sportsmanship, and do their best to help the team.
